Common questions

What can I type into the calculator?

An address with a prefix (10.0.0.1/24), with a subnet mask (10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0), or with a Cisco-style wildcard mask (10.0.0.1 0.0.0.255). An address on its own uses the prefix set by the slider. For IPv6, use an address with a prefix, in compressed or expanded form, such as 2001:db8::1/64.

Why does it ask whether my mask is a subnet mask or a wildcard mask?

A few masks read correctly both ways. 0.0.0.0 is a /0 subnet mask, and also a wildcard mask that matches one host. When a mask is ambiguous, NetKit Subnet picks the more common reading and offers a button below the field to switch to the other.

Why does a /24 show 251 usable hosts on AWS?

Cloud providers reserve addresses in every subnet for their own routers and DNS. AWS and Azure each reserve five, and Google Cloud four, so a /24 gives you 251 or 252 instead of 254. Choose a provider from the cloud button at the top of the calculator, and the results list each reserved address and what it is for. The rules are checked against each provider's documentation.

Why does a /31 have no broadcast address?

A /31 is a point-to-point link (RFC 3021): both addresses are usable, and there is no network or broadcast address. A /32 is a single host. NetKit Subnet labels both, rather than showing zero usable hosts.

"Use My Current Network" says there's no Wi-Fi address

It reads your iPhone's own Wi-Fi address, so it only works while you're connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular addresses are assigned by your carrier and don't describe a network you manage. Connect to Wi-Fi and try again.

I bought Pro but I still see ads

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases, making sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with. If that doesn't fix it, write to us with the date of the purchase.

I want a refund

Purchases made inside the app are handled by Apple, not by us, so refund requests go through Apple's own process at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong on our end, write to us anyway and we'll help you make the case.

How do I delete my history?

NetKit Subnet has no accounts, and your history is stored only on your device, never on our servers. In the History tab, tap Clear to remove recent entries, or swipe left on any entry to delete it. Favorites are kept until you remove them. Deleting the app from your device clears everything NetKit Subnet saved.

How much history does the free version keep?

The last 10 calculations. NetKit Subnet Pro keeps 50, 100, 500, or all of them, your choice, and adds favorites.
